Job Purpose

To provide all aspects of Painting and Decorating work including maintenance, repairs and new build work, across the full range of YMCA Together properties, including the larger and higher quality work in communal areas, ensuring that all such works are carried out in a manner that positively contributes to a high quality, responsive and cost effective service which meets tenant and staff expectations. 


Hours of work

Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.  


Duties and Responsibilities

To carry out all types of painting and decorating activities both internally and externally, fencing, decorating, small maintenance tasks, demolition and alteration works and remedial works in order to complete projects to tenant or staff satisfaction as directed by your line manager or other nominated designate. 

  • To carry out the full range of painting and decorating duties to our domestic and non domestic properties. This will include wall paper stripping, all preparatory works prior to painting and the application of all specified internal and external finishes to a high standard 
  • Carry out pre and post inspections of occupied and void properties to determine the extent of internal and external painting and decoration required. 
  • Attend appointments promptly and provide tenants with information and updates on work that is being undertaken 
  • Ensure that steps are taken to keep dust and dirt to a minimum within tenanted properties and that properties are left in an acceptable condition on completion of work. 
  • To operate within a scheduled appointment system including liaison with tenants, other team members in order to effectively undertake works. 
  • Promptly record outcome of completed repairs via GoAudit providing detailed notes and ensuring that start and finish time are accurately recorded. 
  • Maintain tools and equipment to the required standard. 
  • To liaise as necessary with other trades to ensure implementation and completion of repairs and maintenance works 
  • To support  apprentices, work experience students and any other trainees as required 

Health and Safety

  • Liaise with Emergency Services; Fire, Police and Medical
  • Ensure at all times the safety of yourself and others on the premises in which you work
  • To be aware of, and follow, the relevant Health & Safety policies, Risk Assessments and Safe Working practices
  • To carry out daily safety checks to any vehicle under his/ her control ensuring the vehicle is safe to drive including checking oil, wipers & washers, tyre wear &  pressures, mirrors and to report any defects or issues to for attention.
  • To report incidents, in line with YMCA Together tenure agreements, including nuisance caused by service users’ behaviour or their visitors
  • Report any repairs, maintenance, health & safety hazards, tenant enquiries, safeguarding or vulnerability that are identified during day to day activities
  • Maintain accurate records in line with YMCA Together health & safety policies

Person Specification – Painter and Decorator


Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Full driver’s licence

Desirable

  • City and Guilds Certificate in Painting and Decorating and or equivalent level 3 attainment.

Experiences

Essential

  • Ability to carry out assigned work to standard and speed reasonably expected from a qualified craftsperson in specified trade. 
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.  
  • Keeping accurate records relating to completed works 
  • Time served painter & decorator minimum 3 years 
  • A high degree of tact and diplomacy when interacting with tenants and visitors. 

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a Social Housing/Local Authority environment/ public settings 

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks contained within the job description
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Able to use initiative to deal with unexpected problems
