YMCA Together have been developing our Psychologically Informed Services for over 8 years. We have been using Cognitive Analytical Therapy as a framework for supporting those people who use our services, the staff team and the organisation. We are looking to recruit a Psychologist to support psychologically informed working in our Knowsley service that supports people experiencing homelessness.
We use CAT both as a case management tool with service users, teams and the organisation and as a direct intervention in our rehabilitation service. We require someone to work alongside us to facilitate a number of supervision sessions and facilitate training both internally and externally.
Hours of Work
The service is open 24/7 so we can offer flexible working hours for this role.
The successful post holder will work to:
- In partnership with the Psychology Partner and Senior Leadership Team, embed relational working in our Knowsley service
- Support the facilitation of reflective practice
- Delivery of evidence based psychological therapies, primarily CAT
- Deliver training in psychologically informed working.
Duties and Responsibilities
- ACAT accredited CAT Practitioner status is desirable
- Work with CAT as a case management tool with teams
- Offer individual & group therapies as appropriate
- Contribute to the evidence base for Psychologically informed working & CAT
- Facilitate reflective practice sessions.
- Excellent communication, engagement and interpersonal skills
- Work with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with (couples), families and groups of clients
- Conduct a series of individual sessions with a client – normally lasting between 30 minutes to an hour, one or more times per week. Through these, you will assess need, build trust and explore issues. Through these you will need to assess need to enable the development of a formulation that guides support and intervention. Be able to establish and maintain trusting therapeutic relationships with a particular focus on managing ruptures and use the therapeutic process to explore issues
- Encourage the client to talk about and explore their feelings and behaviour
- Work relationally to support people we work with to explore their relationships, experiences (and) feelings and behaviours/actions
- Keep abreast of developments in theory and research
- Evaluate therapy outcomes and write reports
- Work to targets
- Undergo supervision with the appointed clinical psychologist, in order to raise personal issues and professional concerns arising from work
- Facilitate reflective practice sessions with team members
- Support service users to achieve their goals and targets as defined/ agreed within their support plans
- Update and communicate service user risk assessments in line with YMCA/City wide policy and procedure
- Assist team members in the planning of workshops to individuals and groups that inform/ teach service users around their mental health, how to manage a tenancy, manage a home and live independently
- Creatively support and engage service users that have a wide range of complex and challenging support needs
- Offer a creative but assertive approach in order to seek to re engagement
- Assist Practitioners in the management of personalised behavior / support agreements
- Provide clear, comprehensive and accurate information on handovers to the team making recommendations where appropriate
- Maintain accurate up to date electronic and written records
- Provide psychologically informed consultation and formulations
- Communicate trauma informed practices across all areas of work model a high standard of relational working
- Offer flexible approaches to care and be willing to support people who display behaviours experienced as challenging.

- Encourage involvement, participation and co-production from the people we work alongside in the running and development of the service

The post holder will be expected to carry out other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the post and may be requested from time to time, they will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in all areas of their work. They will be expected to carry out some out of hours duties such as emergencies and meetings called at short notice.
It is recognised that the organisation is operating in a dynamic environment and as such this job description may be varied in consultation with the post holder to reflect evolving needs of the business and changing nature of the job.
Person Specification – Psychologist
- Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
- Registered as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- ACAT accredited
- Experience of partnership working
- Experience of formulating risk assessments
- Working experience of maintaining up to date electronic records and calendars
- Experience of delivering group interventions
- Experience of delivering co-produced activities
- Experience of working in a therapeutic environment
- Experience of working within a psychologically informed environment (PIE)
- Experience of working in accommodation-based support services
- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- A working knowledge of how to support teams to maximise safety and minimise risk
- Evidence of an appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement
- A working knowledge of Health & Safety issues
- A clear understanding of complex needs including past trauma, substance use, homelessness and mental ill health.
